Christy Wallace with GBH Interior Designs shared with us a few of her favorite, budget-friendly ways to freshen up any home!
With a new year right around the corner, it’s likely your living room is looking for some refreshing upgrades on a budget. Here are a few simple ideas that can make a big impact!
New throw pillows are always a good idea. Bold patterns will wake up any boring sofa! Look for affordable options at local shops like Fabrics Unlimited. They always have an amazing selection of great colors and happy prints.
If you haven’t introduced an ottoman into your living room, you should! If your old ottoman is looking worn out, reupholstery is a great option because it doesn’t require a lot of fabric to recover. The presence of an ottoman in front of a sofa or a fireplace makes a room feel inviting. It looks even better with a rug or a hide layered beneath it for added texture, not to mention it provides additional seating.
As we enter this new season, it will start getting dark earlier, so additional lighting is a must. Add a great floor lamp next to your chair or add a pair of lamps to each end of your sofa for a strong symmetrical look. My very favorite go-to style of lamp is a simple black and gold mid-century look, and they can be found at great price points just about everywhere right now.
Speaking of that old chair, maybe it’s time to pick out a new fabric for it. Fabrics Unlimited has great new fabrics to choose from, plus they have the best team of designers to help you pick out the right ones for your room. The design team can also take care of your reupholstery needs.
Last, but certainly not least, is accessories. If you’ve had the same accessories strung across your living room for years, it’s probably time to see what else is out there. Add a beautiful throw to make that same old chair look even better. If your mantel is consumed with knickknacks, it’s time to clear it off and add something that makes more of a statement. Visit antique stores or markets for something different, or check out places like Fabrics Unlimited for more modern and unique pieces. You’ll notice an amazing difference when the small things in a room are moved around, restyled and refreshed.
