Fabrics are part of the palette for our homes

Fabrics are part of the palette for our homes. We are seeing several new colors and styles taking over showrooms. The artists are becoming playful with some fabrics and staying traditional with others. We offer a variety of styles and new looks at Fabrics Unlimited.

It is exciting to see the rich plush velvets, velvet finish, mohair etc. as a staple in so many designs. The artists are expanding their creativity with great cut velvet looks that add playfulness or classic looks to your home.

You also want to keep your eyes open for the raw weaves, slubs, bouclés, and sheepskin. Adding texture to your room is a way to create interest. The tactile wave continues in design looks for drapes, shades, and cushions. Adding an embroidered weave adds interest too.

Florals continue to be prevalent with fresh new interpretations to brighten your room. Check out the variety of colors and styles we have in stock along with special orders.

Blending classic designs with a contemporary edge is appearing in vignettes we are seeing. Upholster your furniture in a classic design and add variety in your room with contemporary lamps, art work, vases, and objets d’art.

About Sunbrella:

Sunbrella is founded on the belief that fabrics should be both beautiful and functional. Their textiles are made with close attention to design detail, and engineered with robust performance characteristics that provide resistance to fading and degradation from sunlight and chemical exposure. The fabric is tactile yet durable, has industry-leading environmental characteristics, is easy to care for and offers long life – wherever it’s used.

Dorm Room Decor

Graduation season is here, and do you know what that means? High school graduates will be off to their chosen college at the end of the summer. So it’s time to start planning your dorm room décor. We have begun to see a trend in upscale dorm rooms, and Fabrics Unlimited has some great ideas and inspiration that won’t break your bank.  When working with a small space such as a dorm room you have to take a few things into consideration your budget, your layout, and your style.

Maximize your Layout:

Functionality is key when planning the layout of your room. When your space is small you have to avoid the risk of overcrowding and over doing.  Maximize your layout by getting your furniture higher off the floor. Raised beds will provide more storage space underneath the beds, or a lofted bed can provide more floor space. Another way to maximize your space is by using storage ottomans or something similar, these ottomans can be dual purposed and used for seating or step stools.

Coordinate with Style:

In most dorm room situations you are sharing a small space with another person. So you will want to create a look that coordinates to avoid clashing. One way to do this is to create your own fabric covered headboards using a bright vibrant pattern. This way your headboard will be multi-functional and play as artwork as well. Opt for solid colors that tie in with the headboard when choosing your bedding, this way each person can have a look that suits them. This will help make the space functional without being overwhelming.

Wall decals, lamps, pillows, rugs, monograms, and memorabilia are some other ways to make your doom room truly yours. These small accessories are usually cost efficient and do not take up much space, they can also be moved or changed to create a new look.

Fabrics Unlimited provides a wide selection of fabrics for headboards, bedding, and pillows. We also have rugs, art work and accessories to give your future dorm room a look you can’t resist. On staff designers are here to help you coordinate fabric and create your dorm room dream.

Creating a Small Outdoor Space

Spring has sprung, and we all know what that means! It is patio weather time. Creating that perfect outdoor space can be challenging, especially when you don’t have much room to work with. When creating your small outdoor area a few things to take into consideration are location, function, and aesthetic.

Location:

When designing an outdoor space, location is an important factor. Consider the position of your space. Does it face east or west?  Is it the front or back of your home? What privacy do you already have existing, if any? You will want to take note of these when positioning your furniture and decor to create maximum privacy and protection from the outdoor elements.

Function:

Function is key when deciding how to create your outdoor space. You will want to plan how you are going to use your space. Will it be an outdoor dining area or an outdoor kitchen? How many people will you need to accommodate? When you have decided on how you want your space to be used, you will be able to look for furniture and accessories that will create the most efficient area for your home.

Aesthetic:

Creating the right aesthetic is how you make your outdoor space truly yours. Take a look at your style and decide how you want to express it in your new space. What type of colors will you use? Are you going for a modern or traditional look? Does your outdoor space coordinate with the rest of your home? And most importantly does it represent you?  When establishing your aesthetic, our team of designers can help find the best look for you and your space.
